I get asked about cardio a lot, especially with all the cardio demonization going on in internet land lately.
I do cardio. Cardio keeps my blood sugar regulation healthy (that, and heart health, are cardio's great strengths). I had blood sugar dysregulation issues when I started all this, and cardio turned that around. I also enjoy it. So I do it. As you will notice, I am not fat.
Strength training also has blood sugar regulation and cardiovascular benefits, so it you hate cardio it's totally fine to focus on strength training instead, both are good. I do both.
My go-to form of cardio is walking. Yep, you read that right. I walk. Either outside or on the treadmill set at an incline. I walk briskly enough to get my heart rate elevated, and I do it for 2-3 hours a week. Do you have to do this? No. You should do what you enjoy. If walking is something you enjoy, you should do it. It is good for you, and it will not make you fat. If you enjoy running, you should do it. It will NOT make you fat. Same with cycling. And yoga. And HIIT. And crossfit. And strength training. Moving your body in ways you enjoy is not bad for you and will not make you fat.
You know what is bad for you and will make you fat(ter)? Pushing yourself to do exercises you don't enjoy, and not eating enough to support the activity you engage in. If you are enjoying what you do, and eating enough to support it, it is good for you, so do it.
